Iconography

Dracula: The use of iconography in this film is through violence which brings out war. Also another significant use of iconography is the cross as its known to help fight vampires and kill them as this is makes them weak and vulnerable so by the director marking the moment of the cross falling we get an impression that this film may be related as a vampire film. Dracula's wife is more weak and ends up killing herself due to the circumstance that of her believing that her husband is dead.

Fright Night:The use of vampire iconography is seen when we see the colour red in the opening which immediately indicates blood. The dark foggy atmosphere which also suggests horror and a time when vampires are more active to do what they want.We also see some kind of statue figure in the neighbor's house which suggests the idea of devil worship or some sort of demonic powers.

Brief Synopsis

20 girls and boys in the forest. The atmosphere is lively and everyone is dancing and singing
(Dark and Foggy with red smoke surrounding the place)
(A Cross will be shown to show vulnerability and weakness)
Then all of a sudden hear a knock on the door, so 2 boys go to open only to find out there was no one knocking at the door.

SCREAMS* SCREAMS* From the creek  as one girl coming crying down telling the others her friends just been possessed by a vampire that has been around in the forrest this whole  time ( At this time we start to see blood pouring out of the girl whos been possessed)
The suspense builds up as now everyone is terrified and don't know how to help the poor girl screaming from the creek.
5 Boys go down near the river see the blood horrifying scene of girl lying on the floor with blood dripping  as the girl vampire had been sucking the girl's neck and no one had known what to do to save her, but it was too late she would of had also become a vampire at that time  there was nothing anyway could do about it.

Then everyone decided in the  forest hat stays here stays. No one else at Home or school should know about this incident that has happened, instead everyone should remain slient.

Represenations
Vampires are being as being nasty and vile.We get this awful image in our heads of how vampires like to suck human blood. They have supernatural powers, are attractive, eternally young and do not have to fear death at all.

Analysising:Hunger

From the trailer I would say that the Genre is Thriller and the sub-genre is Romance. The film also seems like its from the 70/80s and therefore the lighting and  props aren't as modern as today. The shots taken are very fast towards the end making the audience feel tension and more engaged to know whats going to happen next. The music conveys fear and something bad is going to happen as the pace starts to get faster and there is higher volume. There's Romance which happens at the same time of two different couples, this is where crossing cutting has been used to show the different locations each couple are.The monkey is a big influence and significances something dramatic within the film. Most camera shots have been medium long shot of the man locked up in the cell to show his emotions and the background.

Let the Right One In

From the opening I would say that the film is Thriller and the sub-genre is vampires. The non-diegetic music makes the audience feel tense and very aware of the whats going on. The atmosphere is very dark and dull and could be an unknown place as most thrillers are filmed in hidden areas.
Throughout the trailer there have been lots of different types of camera shots to convey the meaning of the movie. Some camera shots have been used at such high angles to show the overlook of the surrounds which is an just like an establishing shot. There was also two shots between the characters Eli and Oscar when they were having their conversation. The use of this is to create the sense that were actually viewing the conversation between the two.The use of high angle shots shows the person below and creates a bigger picture. The image of Vampires is seen as negative because of the way how there represented by their teeth, the feasting on blood, fear of sunlight and death by wooden steak.

5 Top Tips
1.Know the rules of your genre?
You have to be able to know the rules of your genre in order to film/make a production.  By following the conventions of a genre your creative work becomes much more easier. Example Horror film-You need to think about what kind of lighting you want to have

2Break the rules
You should try and challenge genre conventions. To know a rule then consciously break it is a real sign of creative intelligence at work. We can do this through a substitution exercise.

3.Plan the film
Always plan what you want to do before as this allows creative revision to take place. Creativity needs a structure therefore plan your film ahead.

4.Narrative and Names
This is very important as it can help in the process of plotting and building  character arcs the journeys characters go through a narrative.

Horror Conventions

Horror is an intense and profound fear, something that inspires dislike.Their plots frequently involve themes of death, the supernatural or mental illness. Many horror movies also include a central villain. Most horror sets are set during daytime or night but the action in horror movies traditionally occurs in the night.Often dark places, old and creaky perhaps. Abandoned, ‘middle of nowhere’ buildings.Damaged structures Crumbling or run-down buildings. The setting creates mood. High and Low angles to connate fear.  There is also a point of view allowing the audience to see through the persons view and world of terror. The sound effects are extremely important feature to create fear through dietic . Editing creates mood through build up from slow cutting and transition.

189 Degree rule shows through the conversation there having

Match on Action

Close up shot

Match on Action and 180 Degree rule

A screen play is visual and your characters actions move the story forward from scene to scene. The characters dialogue supports the actions
Match on Action:Match on action (or cutting on action) is an editing technique for continuity editing in which one shot cuts to another shot portraying the action of the subject in the first shot. This creates the impression of a sense of continuity – the action carrying through creates a “visual bridge” which draws the viewer’s attention away from slight cutting or continuity issues. This is not a graphic match or match cut, it portrays a continuous sense of the same action rather than matching two separate things.

180 degree rule: The 180° rule The 180° rule is a filming guideline that participants in a scene should have the same left-right relationship to each other, with filming only taking place within the 180° angle in which this is maintained in a conversation,

Seven Opening Analysis

The opening of Seven shows somebody to be planning or investigating something as it shows a book that someone is reading and then to be filling. The middle part  presents writing that the hidden character is underlining and crossing out.The camera has been used to portray thriller convection as it looks like a horror film. The director has also chosen colours that will stand out from the rest as red may be for blood and blue may be for innocence. There are also shades of grey and black which makes images with primary colours stand out. It also displays disturbing photographs which are being cut out fast. The director has made it a very dark film and the gloom is often penetrated only by the flashlights of the detectives. This indicates that the person is nasty or has a violent personality.

City of God opening Analysis

The opening of City Of God starts of by a sharp blade scraping a rock then the screen becomes blank making it difficult for the audience to see whats happening but easier to hear(Digetic). As the blade is being sharpened even more it gives supsense to the audience because we don't know what exactly the blade is being sharpened for. There is also cross-cutting being used and different shots of action which occur in different places of the opening.

We then see a group of people that are preparing chicken which is very different to European culture as they don't kill animals in preparation for dinner they go out and buy whereas the people in this film are running trying to get the chicken.By doing this the director makes us think where this film could of been set and what may be the purpose of it being set where it is.
Then there is cross-cutting shots of people with no shoes which may suggest that could have been set in a slum or a poor place.

Then as the chicken is being prepared the audience can hear diegetic sounds from people drumming.

We then get a close up shot of a chicken wriggling themselves from a rope is shown diegetic onscreen sound of the drumming stops and cut an extreme shot of a chickens blood on a plate which implies the theme of the film may be about blood and violence and chickens may suggest that chicken may be the first part of killing. After that we see a dark man speaking in a foreign language.

Cross cutting is used between the two scenes.

Three Colours Blue Opening Analysis

The opening film of the french film three colours blue started off with a blank screen but became appealing to the audience as one wheel of the car was showing and not the other wheel infront of the back wheel. This makes it strange and very usual. This was done by a camera next to the wheel on the ground capturing only one wheel and cutting the other wheels of the car out.

The director then makes the audience feel very uncomfortable and out of zone as the sound used creates the sense of rushing and fear which draws our attention. We also see the scene of the car lights illuminating on the motorway then the small girl looks out of the window which suggests to us that this is her point of view from  the book.We as an audience get tricked into believing that the car is actually movinf on the motorway when really its just being passed rocked from side to side on a stage sette. The street lights we see passing the car were just done by people holding lights above. The next scene we see is the car stopped on the motorway most likely early morning as we see the girls father yawning which implies that he may be tired from the driving through the night.

The director also shows us oil leakage from a pipe under the car which foreshadows danger may occur later on and the little may be affected as shes running in the background or it could tell us that the whole film may be about her. Then the next scene occurs in the car crashing into the tree and we get a glimpse of a arm flying out of the car and a girl screaming and this is when the boy goes to the car to try and help attempt to rescue her. If u watch carefully in detail you can see the arm coming out of the car which suggests the filming for this part maybe was rushed or not of good quality.
